Honor System Not An Issue

Commerce School Begins Elections

By CHIP LAND

The Commerce School decided
yesterday to hold its elections despite the
Student Council decision to postpone its
supervision of Honor Committee elections.

In announcing the unanimous decision
of the Commerce School officers and
representatives, Commerce Student
Council Chairman, Bob Harman said:

"Since our school is so small and the
Honor System is not an issue in the
Commerce School, we decided to go ahead
and hold elections any way."

"All our candidates support the Honor
System as it presently stands," he added,
and all of the candidates support the
decision to hold the elections now."

"To prolong the campaigning would be
detrimental to the students, the campaigns
and the candidates," he said.

The Commerce School decision not to
postpone their elections came after the
Student Council postponed elections
pending investigation into the funding and
influence of the letter written and
distributed by the Honor Committee.

Mr. Harman emphasized, "We're not
dissenting as to the Student Council's
action. We're neither condemning nor
condoning what they did."

Student Council President Tom Collier
agreed with Mr. Harman that there is no
conflict between Student Council and the
Commerce School.

Mr. Collier added that, by not
postponing its elections, the Commerce
School simply has taken from Student
Council the burden of running their own
elections.

Voting in the Commerce School
elections started yesterday and will
continue through today and tomorrow.
